Blog Update, Update

This is what happens during the last two weeks of the semester.

Here is a quick update on the state of the next blog update – I’ll be M.I.A. for the next week and a half as final papers are crushing me. Expect to see some deliciously new content the first week in April. As always the offer is always open for guest posts if you happen to want to rant on any topic mildly tangential to Mass Comm. Just drop a note to my email (you can find it on the About page). -g.d.

Staying up to date in the Mass Comm Arena

I know it goes without saying, but I’m going to say it. If you are serious about the study of Mass Communication and I sincerely hope you are… You should try to stay abreast of happenings in our field. Yes, you should! Not only is it great fodder for class and paper ideas but it’s damn fascinating too. Here are a few resources to help you do just that:

AEJMC (Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication)

  • AEJMC – Yes, the conferences are a bunch of professors drinking copious amounts of alcohol and yelling at each other about the merits (or lack thereof) of Agenda Setting but it also publishes JMCQ (Journalism & Mass Comm Quarterly).Which, for the $40 or so a year membership you get all the publications out of there. The last two journals are in line for my summer reading.
  • Definitely worth your time to follow them on Twitter.
  • Fan them on Facebook.

There is the very basic 101 course on keeping your ear to the ground. Feel free to share any other ideas or good pubs in the comments! -g.d.

Mass Comm Video Fun

Since class is getting increasingly busy in the next few weeks – I though I would throw some Mass Comm humor your way. Two of these are┬áChristmas┬áthemed but hilarious nonetheless. Nothing like advertising humor.

Welcome to the Mass Comm Blog

Hello random people,

I’ve launched a Mass Communication blog which I hope will serve to help some of you out in your search for ideas and resources as well as some helpful information for students (grad & undergrad) as I’m a grad student myself. Please check out the About page for some more info, this blog will be a work in progress as I try to keep it ever relevant and updated.
